Course #1300 - Modern World History
In Modern World History, students will explore a variety of peoples, events, and movements in world history (1500’s to the present) with a focus on inquiry-based learning. To achieve this, students will explore cause/effect relationships within the context of history. Additionally, students will acquire skills in critical reading by analyzing fiction, nonfiction and primary sources as well as maps, charts, graphs and political cartoons. Students 60 will utilize evidence from reliable sources to effectively communicate, both in writing and orally, their own opinions on complex historical issues supported by relevant, accurate and persuasive evidence. Topics may include, but are not limited to the Enlightenment, revolutions, the Industrial Revolution, Imperialism and World War I.

Course #1313 - Honors Modern World History
This is the honors version of Modern World History for students who would like to challenge themselves with a more accelerated version of the course that goes into more depth about each topic covered in the regular version of Modern World History. This course will also begin with the Scientific Revolution of the 1500s, but more information will be covered by the end of the year due to the accelerated nature of the course, and there will be more of an emphasis on advanced reading and writing skills.
Prerequisite: A strong interest in Social Studies and an instructor recommendation
