Student Spirit Association

WHAT IS THE SSA?

The SSA, or Student Spirit Association, is an organization open to all students.  The SSA runs several programs dedicated to fostering school spirit and enhancing the school climate.  Basically, SSA students are dedicated to recognizing students and staff for the amazing people they are and for making TMHS an even more fun place to be. So, if you are someone that enjoys making others feel happy about themselves and their surroundings, you should join SSA.  See Ms. Williams or Mrs. Ouillette if you have any questions.

SSA Programs include:

Tiger Shout-outs: We have a recognition program here at Tourtellotte called “Tiger Shout-outs.”  Students and teachers have the opportunity every day to give “Shout-outs” to peers or teachers to say thank you, to recognize a good choice someone has made, to acknowledge a random act of kindness you benefited from or witnessed, or to recognize a great effort or some other character trait you appreciate in a friend, teacher, or staff member.  If you want to give someone a shout-out over the announcements, fill out the Shout-Out form.  Announcement shout-outs will be displayed in the hallway outside the LMC on the Shout-out board.  Shout-outs are a great way to lift the spirit of others on a daily basis!

Student Spotlight Recognition: Each month starting in October, Tourtellotte Memorial High School student(s) will be recognized for outstanding achievement, character, leadership, attitude, and/or contributions to the school or classroom environment, and/or community. Do you already know of a Tourtellotte individual or group deserving of such recognition? Keep an eye out for whom you might like to nominate in October. All thoughtful nominations will be considered by the School Spirit Association and all nominations, once submitted, are considered every month. Thank you for participating.

Staff Recognition: Each quarter, one member of the Tourtellotte Memorial High School staff will be recognized for outstanding contributions to the school community or classroom environment.  So, start thinking about which teacher, paraeducator, administrator, administrative assistant or any other staff person you might nominate next month for such recognition.

Flashback Award: Did you have a teacher at MRFES or TMS that made a special impact on you? Do you know of a TPS faculty member deserving of recognition? Each year, one member of the Thompson Public Schools faculty, grades Pre-K to 8, is recognized for his/her outstanding contributions to the school community or classroom environment.  All students will have the opportunity to nominate one such faculty member. We will honor this teacher at our end-of-the-year assembly.  Nominate a Pre-K-8 teacher for the Flashback Award: FLASHBACK AWARD NOMINATION FORM

Semester Awards: At the close of each semester, teachers are given the opportunity to recognize those students who are deserving of special recognition for the semester.  Teachers are given the difficult task of selecting one student to receive a special award at the end of the first semester, as well as the second semester. These awards are presented in the auditorium during a special assembly each semester.

Spirit Events: Each year the SSA hosts spirit weeks and puts on pep rallies and other events/programs to help raise school spirit.  Pep rallies include special recognitions and lots of fun and games. Last year, we had a Halloween Parade and holiday activities in December.  Additionally, the SSA has special programming for other holidays like Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day. The SSA also hosts an End-of-the-Year Celebration in the auditorium to celebrate the year’s accomplishments.

Staff Appreciation: Whether it’s Teacher Appreciation Day, Nurse’s Appreciation Day, Administrative Assistant Day, Principal Day, or Assistant Principal Day, the SSA is dedicated to making sure staff appreciation days do not go unnoticed.
