Leadership Team

The Leadership Team consists of class and club officers who, as part of this group,  participate in  leadership and team-building field trips, activities, and workshops.  Members then use their training to lead Tourtellotte’s clubs and organizations, as well as school-wide initiatives.  Members of the team learn valuable life skills that will encourage our students to continue to take on leadership roles beyond high school.

TSLT Mission (as articulated by the student members):

The mission of the Tourtellotte Student Leadership Team (TSLT) is to advocate for the vision and concerns of the student body while growing as leaders and acting as productive school citizens to bring about positive change in their school community. The mission of the TSLT and its members is to improve the school by engaging the community towards consistent positive action that results in effective change.
History of the TSLT:

The Tourtellotte Memorial High School Leadership Team, or the TSLT, is an innovative student organization that was born in 2013. At that time, Mr. Joyce and Mrs. Ouillette recognized that  student leaders were expected to produce leadership outcomes with little to no formal training on how to lead initiatives effectively for their classes, clubs, and organizations.  Coupled with the burgeoning research on the power and effectiveness of student voice in positive school change, the TSLT was born with strong support from administration.
At the foundation of this innovative team is a unique set of by-laws that brings together student leaders from grades 9-12, and from a variety of student organizations, to promote student voice and student action in their school and local community. Over the last decade, the TSLT has evolved to become a strong positive influence on the school community and in the lives of the students at TMHS.
The TSLT meets monthly with administration to address student concerns, many of which come from student voice forms that were developed as a mechanism to get input from the student body. The minutes of these meetings are communicated to the student body and staff, administration, and to the Board of Education by the student BOE Liaisons. Additionally, the team meets monthly for half day in-school workshops, during which they are given leadership training and develop action plans to address the changes they would like to see in their school, among other initiatives. Members of the TSLT host a yearly Freshmen Orientation and Expo Night and have led several conferences, both regional and for TMHS and TMS students.
